Dr P. S. Iyer Oration award is instituted by AMPI in honor of the meritorious scientist, Dr P. Seshadrinatha Iyer for his contribution to Medical Physics in India.
Dr. P. Seshadrinatha Iyer was born on September 22, 1935, and brought up in Kerala where he received most of his school and college education until his MSc Physics from Kerala University. Thereafter, he joined Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (presently Bhabha Atomic Research Centre [BARC], Mumbai), in 1959. Soon, he was deputed abroad for higher education and received his PhD in “Radiation Biophysics” from Kansas University, USA. He became a Certified Health Physicists of American Board of Health Physics. He was the Head of RP Division (presently RP and Advisory Division), BARC, since 1992, till he retired from BARC on September 30, 1995, after a meritorious service of a scientist over 35 years.
