Dear Medical Physics Colleagues,

Greetings to you all for the Festive Season!

It gives me pleasure to take this opportunity to share with you some happy news. Also, let me share with you the activities that AMPI has been intensely engaged to overcome the challenges related to our professional practice. Let me assure you that there would be no let-up in the efforts. We will continue in a relentless but in a quiet and dignified manner without blowing our own trumpets.  We pride ourselves calling a highly professional body of intellectuals who have the capability to discern the developments in a reasoned manner. Just to give a glimpse on what we have been working on:

i) Work on the first AMPI annual school has been progressing satisfactorily. A proposal for the school wef 6-8 Mar 2026 at Mumbai on a tentative topic related to Digital Transformation in Medical Physics is under consideration. The idea is to create a quality benchmark in the first couple of schools to set a precedence for future. This is in addition to the commendable job CMPI is carrying on.

ii)   In the beginning of the year AMPI delegation met the Chairman, AERB to discuss and highlight our concerns. I must say that the chairman very patiently heard us and shared the regulator’s points of view in a discussion that went on for about two hours. Before this, official AMPI delegations took part in 05 national stakeholders feed-back meetings on preparation of safety guides on various subjects and provided comprehensive feeds backs. Even in the latest NCRI on 09 Oct 2025 conference AMPI was officially represented even though it was invited at a short notice of about two days.

iii) As a major relief, NMC has reinstated medical physics as a teaching specialty. after intense efforts of AMPI. We are aware of some deficiencies in the NMC gazette notification and will address it in due course of time.

iv) Regarding NCAHP, we have been closely in touch with what is happening in the NCAHP regarding our profession. Just to share with you we had approached NCAHP regarding our improper placement in it. However, it was conveyed to us that this change can be effected through the parliamentary route. Efforts for the same will be made in due course of time. In the meantime, we are preparing an effective our representation on the NACHP draft circulated by NCAHP.

v) As you are aware, in the recently held SGBM, the members overwhelmingly opined that effective action should be initiated by AMPI on misuse of the medical physics designation. In a related matter, on the instances of repeated advertisements by various AIIMS and other medical institutions with inappropriate qualifications/use of medical physicist designation, as a first measure we promptly write to the heads of the institutions as well to MoHFW highlighting the anomalies.

vi) Preparation of the first ever AMPICON in the north eastern part of India at Guwahati is progressing satisfactorily. The local organizing committee and the scientific committee are working hard to make it a success. Internationally renowned medical physics researchers and entrepreneurswill be taking part in the meeting. Pls take advantage of their presence.

Input from young and dynamic members is very vital to us just as the is sage advice of the experience members.  We must remember that noise is not a substitute for reason though it may give a sense of instant popularity. Blame game is the easiest game to play but it is a slippery slope resulting in more harm than good.

Looking forward to meeting you at Guwahati and wishing you and your families a joyous, healthy, and prosperous New Year 2025!

Warmest regards,
Manoj K Semwal, PhD
President, AMPI
